World Intellectual Property Day
World Intellectual Property (IP) Day is celebrated annually on April 26. Member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) selected April 26 in recognition of when the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization came into force. World IP Day aims to increase public awareness and discussion of IP by celebrating the contributions of inventors and creators around the world and highlighting the role of IP rights (copyright, trademarks, patents, designs, and trade secrets) in stimulating innovation and creativity.
World IP Day 2025
The theme for 2025 was IP and music: Feel the beat of IP, which explored the critical role of IP rights in supporting a thriving music scene. It also celebrated the work of songwriters, composers, producers, performers, musical device inventors, and all those who shape the music industry.

World IP Day 2024: IP and the Sustainable Development Goals
Each year’s World IP Day celebration focuses on some aspect of IP. For 2024, the global theme is related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by UN members in 2015: “IP and the SDGs: Building our common future with innovation and creativity.” This will offer the opportunity to consider how IP, IP offices, and IP stakeholders throughout the world contribute to or support each of the SDGs.
